Moskito Island
Location: British Virgin Islands
Gemini Water designed, fabricated, installed, and commissioned a 60,000 US gallon per day (GPD) reverse osmosis expansion for the desalination plant at South Bay, Moskito Island.
The project expanded the facility’s treatment capacity and improved year-round water quality and system reliability. Key upgrades included:
- A second 60,000 GPD seawater RO unit (Train B)
- Expanded media and cartridge filtration
- Upgrades to the intake priming system to reduce entrained air
- A second calcite contactor and automated chemical dosing
- Enhanced membrane flushing to reduce corrosion and support biocide use during periods of inactivity
- Energy recovery using an ERI device to minimize energy consumption
The new skid-mounted RO system was designed to integrate with the existing piping and electrical infrastructure and uses corrosion-resistant materials, including duplex stainless steel and AL6XN high-pressure piping.
